A polaroid, an instagram post, a disappearing snapchat, the flash of a light leaving an imprint on the retina. Images compose and capture the concrete and ephemeral experiences of our day to day lives. Accessible to almost a fault, the photo is ripe with potential. This is why we are drawn to artists who address the history, the kitch, and the possibility of photography while also pressing up against the matte, the frame, and the glass to propel the image into new avenues of expression. After / Image brings together image based artists who play with the materiality of photography and challenge the definitions and preconceived notions of the medium itself. 

As a curatorial act, our aim is to challenge how viewers approach mediums in an age of increased fluidity and multi-hyphenation. We also hope to develop ongoing programming to take place yearly/bi-yearly that addresses specific mediums: painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, etc and the way contemporary artists are pushing against the limits of their chosen mediums. All artists will be selected in a blind review in which the two curators will propose artists/works without details other than images of the works themselves. Works and artists will be selected from this pool of images.
